Description
The Protected Landscape Area of Monte da Guia, with 74 ha, is constituted by volcanic cones, craters, slopes, cliffs, bays, inlets, rock beaches, sand, rocky ridges and marine caves. In this place is well noticed the human intervention since the last century. However, it continues to be one of the areas of excellence in the Azores because includes priority habitats of grey dunes and endemic vegetation of high value, as the Tree Heath (Erica azorica) and the native Azorean Candleberry Tree (Myrica faya). This is also a privileged place for birds as the Cory’s Shearwater (Calonectris diomedea borealis), the Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) and the Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea).
