Geopark Description
The Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark covers the western half of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015, Fforest Fawr is one of only two geoparks in Wales. A cracked and crumpled layer-cake of rocks 470 million years in the making, the Geopark is a spectacular landscape carved by ice and shaped by man, with many stories to tell. Celebrated for everything from the deepest caves and gorges, through to the highest peaks of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountain ranges. With limestone pavements, Iron Age hill forts, standing stones, rare plants and Industrial Revolution remains, it is a landscape waiting to be explored.
